After he was corrupted by the Idol, throughout the early 20th century, Vannacutt began performing gruesome and torturous experiments and medical procedures on the patients. When The Darkness confronts Eddie about his ancestor's actions, Eddie screams that he was actually adopted. Pritchett's ghost then appears and opens the iron gate, and Eddie escapes. As Sara and Eddie sit in exhaustion over the night's events, they notice an envelope halfway through the gate.
Hearing a scream, Lance and David find Annabelle's corpse, suspended to suggest she hanged herself, but the absence of a perch immediately arouses suspicions of murder. Nora confronts Lance and tells him an unseen assailant strangled her and left her for dead. He tells her to remain out of sight so that her attacker will still think she is dead. Lance and David propose that everyone stay in their rooms and shoot anyone who enters to survive the night. Thus the innocents will have no reason to leave their rooms (and a good reason to stay inside them) and the killer must stay put or admit guilt. For the campy 1999 remake, the amusement park was largely a model, based on a real park in Orlando, Florida. It’s the art deco frontage of the Griffith Observatory, 2800 East Observatory Road in Griffith Park, Los Angeles (previously a major location for Rebel Without a Cause). Two major studios have released it on home video in remastered versions. Warner Home Video released the film on DVD as a tie-in to the release of the 1999 remake. The color version was released on DVD the same year by 20th Century Fox. Extras prepared by Legend Films for the Fox DVD release included an audio commentary track by comedian Michael J. Nelson of Mystery Science Theater 3000, two versions of the trailer, and a slideshow of images from the film's original press book. The poster for the film included an illustration of a house in yet a third style, that of a fanciful four-story Romanesque structure. This room is a rotted chamber filled with the rotted remains of many of the asylum's patients.
Produced by Robert Zemeckis and Joel Silver, it is a remake of the 1959 film of the same title directed by William Castle, and features special effects by famed make-up artists Gregory Nicotero and Dick Smith. Millionaire Frederick Loren (Vincent Price) holds an all-night party in the supposedly haunted house cared for by jittery Watson Pritchard (Elisha Cook Jr), in William Castle’s classic gimmicky schlocker. After Nora, Watson, and Ruth release Lance from the secret room, Nora tells them that she shot Frederick. When they arrive in the cellar, Frederick explains that he loaded her gun with blanks, that his wife and David plotted to kill him, and that they both met their ends in the vat of acid.

The Roosevelt competes with the Knickerbocker for most celebrity hauntings. Marilyn Monroe supposedly appears in a full-length mirror from Suite 1200, where she stayed when she first started becoming famous; Montgomery Clift is said to hang out in and around room 928, where he lived while shooting From Here to Eternity. One psychic says he’s also detected Humphrey Bogart, Carmen Miranda, and Betty Grable. There’s also a cold spot in the Blossom Room (the first home of the Oscars), near where a dapperly-dressed ’30s-era man is said to hang around. Watson remains convinced the house is haunted, with David and Annabelle now added to its ranks of ghosts, and that he will be the next victim. The Psychiatric Institute has a lockdown mechanism which was installed by Dr. Vannacutt when the facility was an asylum to stop patients from escaping. After the original asylum was destroyed in the 1931 revolt, the lockdown mechanism was never disabled as the ghosts stopped the reconstruction attempts made over the years before the workers could disable the lockdown. After the incident at the former institute with Steven Price's party, the facility was left abandoned again. Eight years after Price's party at the asylum, Dr. Richard Hammer and his assistant Kyle arrived at the building to search it for the Baphomet Idol. Art dealer Desmond Niles and his team also came to the facility for the Idol, with a hostage Paul and Ariel Wolfe.
In a black-and-white post-credits scene, the spirits of the 1931 patients are seen torturing the Prices forever in the afterlife, presumably doomed to eternal damnation.

The patients start a fire which engulfs the building, killing all of the inmates and all but five of Vannacutt’s staff. Several ghosts supposedly haunt the bridge, including possibly a worker who fell into the concrete during construction. Griffith Park is all kinds of haunted, dating back supposedly to the nineteenth century, when owner Don Antonio Feliz left the land to one Don Antonio Coronel instead of to his niece, Dona Petronilla Feliz.
